Unlike Day 7 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open, Day 8 of the Series saw 3 events hit the tables, of which two managed to crown their respective winners. One of the winners was Nicolas Immekus, the winner of the $250k Guaranteed Deeper Stack
NL Holdem re-entry event (#8 of the Series), the other one was the winner of the $450 PLO Deep Stack Re-entry event (#11), Michael Fiorito.
Event #10, the $450 Deepest Stack NL Holdem Re-entry one also saw action as it successfully played down to its final 35 players.
It took Immekus 18 hours to remain the only player standing in event #8, but it was obviously worth it: he picked up $99.14k for his efforts. The player he disposed of heads-up was Allyn Marshall, who had to settle for $51.3k. The heads-up match at the end of the poker tournament is said to have been a truly epic showdown, as the lead swung back and forth between the two several times.
Event #8 was one of the biggest of the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open. Its three Day 1 flights saw several “name” participants belly up to its tables, among them James Woods, Amanda Musumeci, Men Nguyen, Dan Heimiller and Joe Mckeehen - notorious on account of the fact that he had already won an event at the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open.
Event #10 saw 35 players remain after its first day of action. When the day was called, Andy Hwang was the player with by far the largest stack. He had 1.62 million chips bagged. Bruce Sekor and Steve Gill did pretty well too.
Event #11 saw Michael Fiorito shoot to the top, picking up the $11.5k top prize. Fiorito bested Joseph Stiers heads-up, leaving some $6.2k for the runner-up. Helder Martins and Anthony Caruso finished 3rd and 4th.
