Borgata Winter Poker Open – Day 9 Report

The 9th day of the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open saw two more events go into the books. Event #10 was one of the tournaments that played down to a winner. The other one was event #99, so peculiarly numbered on account of the fact that it was only added to the schedule on Wednesday. Event #99, a $230 Deep Stack
NL Holdem Re-entry event, was meant to replace event #12, which got cancelled because of the adverse weather conditions which seriously affected travel in the Northeast.
Event #10 was the $450 Deepest Stack NL Holdem Re-entry event, which saw Michael Tauman walk away with the top prize, the title and the bragging rights. On his way to the top and to a 34.1k payday, Tauman bested a starting field of 327 players, defeating Mark Rebuck heads-up. The final hand of the
poker tournament saw Lady Luck firmly put her foot down in Tauman’s favor as his 7c,6c bested Rebuck’s pocket rockets.
The runner-up picked up $18.9k for his efforts. The final table was by no means an easy one: last year’s winner of the Borgata Winter Poker Open Main Event, Andy Hwang played too, and he made it all the way to third place, picking up $11.7k for his efforts. No other players finished with a 5-figure prize.
Event #99 had been scheduled as a one-day affair, but had it not been for a last minute 4-way deal at the top, it would probably have spilled over into a second day of action.
Trevor Deeter was the one who walked away with the title in the end, picking up $19.8k. He was followed by Toby Kasser in second place, whose reward was $11k.
Mohr Eid and Brian Rosengarden finished 3rd and 4th respectively, but none of them managed to cross into 5-figure territory prize-wise.
