Brecher and Anderson WPT Champs

Last week, there was no shortage of WPT headlines, most of which were generated by the Borgata Poker Open. As the big one rolled forward on the East Coast though drawing scores of pros to its tables, there were other – much smaller – WPT events playing down to their winners in Tampa Bay and Reno.
The WPT Regional Florida Fall Tampa Bay Open was hosted by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and it saw 323 players cough up the $1.5k buy-in. The resulting prize-pool was $307k big and it was distributed among the top 27 finishers.
Scott Andersen was the winner of this poker tournament. He defeated Song O heads-up, although that didn’t make much of a difference money-wise, since the two had made a heads-up deal which left both of them with $68.39k. The difference was in the fact that it was Andersen’s name that got etched into the history books of the WPT as the official winner of this regional event.
Alan Percal finished third, for a $33.8k reward.

The WPT Regional Nevada Western Poker Challenge took place between September 20 and September 22, and it was hosted by the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno. The event featured a slightly larger buy-in of $1,650 and it offered a guarantee of $200k. Only 111 players showed up though, so the guarantee was not covered and a nice overlay was created.
Steve Brecher was the one who walked away with the top prize and the title in this one, and unlike Andersen above, he made no deals on his way to the top either. He took home the full $58k share of the winner. Roger Sippl finished second, for $38k, followed by Dean Freedlander in 3rd, who took home $25k. Brecher already has his name on the WPT Champions Cup due to a 2009 Bay 101 Shooting Stars win.
