Brummelhuis Hyped About the Prospects of Online Poker in Holland

Michiel Brummelhuis is the first ever poker player from the Netherlands to make the final table of the largest poker event in the world. As such, it is only natural that his fellow countrymen be extremely hyped about the prospects of his going all the way and taking home the title. In fact, he says he will be bringing a motley camp of supporters several hundreds of people big with him to Las Vegas come November.
The fact that he is only seventh in chips did nothing to douse the enthusiasm surrounding his
2013 WSOP final table presence. He recently signed with
888Poker and he – like the other November Niners – is already guaranteed a min cash of $733k. Of course, he may well turn out to be the one taking home the $8 million+ top prize, and just in the nick of time too, as he’s expecting his first child this September.
Brummelhuis said that the first few days after the conclusion of Day 7 of the Main Event had been extremely hectic for him. His phone kept ringing while all he really wanted to do is to catch a little R&R. Once home, he garnered quite a bit of media attention from the major Dutch television stations and newspapers too, so it’s safe to say he’s already like an acting ambassador for the game in the Netherlands.
While Brummelhuis will certainly tread ground no other Dutchman has walked before him that is not to say that no one from the Netherlands has ever come close to making the final stage of the Main Event. In 2004 for instance, Marcel Luske was eliminated on the final table bubble. While the effect of Luske’s WSOP performance on the Dutch public was difficult to gauge, Brummelhuis says he’s certain that if he wins, poker will explode in his country.
