Dan Heimiller leads $1,000 NL Holdem event final table

Event #4 of the 2009 WSOP saw its final table set on Day 3. 50 survivors returned to the tables on this day, hell bent on working the field down to the final 9. The initial plan was to work it all the way down to the winner, but due to some technical issues with the planned online streaming of the final table action of this “Stimulus Special”, the final confrontation was postponed.
When the day was called, Dan Heimiller held the chip lead, having amassed a stack of 4,155,000 chips.
The start of the event saw postponement as well, due to lack of space as its scheduled start time overlapped with event #7, the $1,500 NL Holdem one. When things finally got going, so did Dan Heimiller. Who says it takes no luck to make it far in a tournament? Heimiller would definitely argue otherwise. As soon as the game got going, he pushed all-in on his 8,9 on a board of 9,6,7 only to get a caller in Stephen Birkett, who tabled pocket tens. The turn fell a 7 but the 9 on the river bailed Heimiller out and crippled Birkett.
Larry Sidebotham was another one of Lady Luck’s pets this day, as he managed to crack Richard Yelland’s pocket kings with pocket Jacks when the turn landed another J to give him a set. Needless to say, both players were all-in.
Lee Watkinson and Eric Mizrachi were eliminated in 36th and 43rd places respectively. As the average stack size rose however, the pace of eliminations slowed down. Danny Fuchs, himself a front-runner pretty much all day long, managed to pull a fast one on Dan Heimiller when he stole a pot from him on a nice bluff.
Robert Comegys, who led the field on Day 2, didn’t make it to the last two tables. He was joined at the rail by Jack Powell, Tom Dobrilovic and Brent Roberts soon.
Stephen Ma got his pocket rockets cracked in a hand which crippled him and set him up for a 15th place elimination.
The final table bubble boy was Eric Chhor who got his Ad, Jd cracked by Steve Sung’s As, 6s.
Danny Fuchs, Nathan Mullen, Larry Sidebotham, Jeff Oaks and James Matz III also made it to Day 4.
