Having been diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer earlier in 2015, one of the most colorful and interesting personalities of the poker world, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott passed away on Monday, April 6. He is survived by his wife and eight children. While the vast majority of people involved in poker one way or another do in fact know Ulliott, fewer people know that his $6.2 million that he had amassed through various live poker events, made him the second most profitable live poker player in the UK, right after Sam Trickett.
As far as live
poker tournament action goes., Ulliott was indeed one of the trailblazers in Europe. He was the very first winner of Late Night Poker and far above and beyond his actual green felt antics, he was considered to have done the most for the popularization of the game in the UK.

Of course, someone of Ulliott's stature will always come with a
WSOP bracelet. He earned his back in 1997. In 2003, he added a similarly "compulsory" WPT title to his trophy-case.
The reaction to the news of Devilfish's death was profound through the poker community. Various celebrities tweeted out their condolences, among them Doyle Branson, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth. Brunson said he was surprised by the sad news, as Ulliott had sent him 3 direct messages only a few days before and he was not expecting him to pass so soon. In his own twitter farewell, Negreanu called him "poker's most colorful character". Others who chimed in brought up pleasant memories, called him a "poker legend" and an "entertaining poker player".
The announcement regarding his death came from his son, David, through Twitter.
