On Monday, the UKIPT’s Edinburgh Main Event went into the books, as Dean Hutchison managed to get the better of PokerStars’ Liv Boeree heads-up. Boeree was among the chip leaders at the start of the day, second in chips only to Jason Beazley who had had some 2.3 million bagged the night before.
The first victim of the final table action was Ciaran Heaney, who got bounced by Boeree after the latter made a boat in what turned out to be Heaney’s last hand in the
poker tournament. Heaney picked up a little over £11k for his 8th place.
The next player to head to the rail was Michael Kane. His reward was £15.5k. The one “guilty” for his elimination was Liv Boeree too.
Once going, Boeree didn’t stop. The next player to head to the sidelines was sent there by her too. Jacobus Visser picked up £20.7k for his 6th place.
After the early stages of the final table were thoroughly dominated by the
PokerStars pro, it was finally time for someone else to swing into action too. Hutchison sent Tomasz Raniszewski packing in 5th place after a classic coin-flip of a hand. Raniszewski’s share of the prize-pool was £26.3k.
Boeree got back into the driver’s seat after she eliminated Eldon Orr in 4th place. This hand was a coin-flip too: Boeree’s pocket 8s held against Orr’s A,K in the run-off. Orr’s reward was £33.7k.
The next elimination of the day belonged to Boeree as well. The victim this time around was Jason Beazley, whose elimination set up the heads-up stage of the poker tournament. Beazley’s reward was £42.4k.
The heads-up stage of the event lasted for more than 3 hours, during which Boeree got the chance to finish it off for good several times. One such occasion saw her pocket Ks fall short against Hutchison’s A,4o. In the end, she picked up £59.1k for her second place, while Hutchison walked away with £93.9k.
