Delaware Launches Play Money Poker Site

Ever since Nevada and New Jersey have made concrete moves towards the legalization and actual implementation of
real money online poker, there have been a handful of states looking to follow suit. One of these states was Delaware, lawmakers of which have been rather vocal about their intentions regarding the legalization of poker in the state. Up until the other day, there had been little actual progress made in this respect, but now the State can boast its own online poker operation – albeit for now, only a play money one.
The driving forces behind the initiative were the state’s three casinos, which have pooled their resources to launch the operation that will obviously serve as the basis of the real money online casino/poker room.
Powered by the DoubleDown Casino platform (IGT) the site currently offers roulette, blackjack, slots and of course online poker. IGT has been one of Delaware’s hand-picked slots vendors for a while now.
According to the State’s secretary of finance, Tom Cook, the aim of the move is to ease players into the ebb and flow of online casino gambling/online poker, before cutting to the chase at the real money tables. For now – at least as long as the games remain play-money based – players will be able to access them from all over the world. As soon as the real money version is introduced though, only those within the state’s borders will be granted access.
While the development is an obviously positive one for the online gambling industry as a whole, questions remain regarding the ability of the Nation’s sixth least populous state to provide proper liquidity for the poker tables. Online poker professionals have been known to move to states with more friendly legal attitudes towards their trade, but the masses that make up the bulk of the recreational player base may be difficult to rustle up.
