Durrrr challenge – another short session in the books

Dwan and Cates put in yet another short Challenge session this morning at Full Tilt Poker’s Challenge tables, which once again ended in a rather inconclusive manner. Dwan won this 1,407-hand session too, but he only finished ahead by $18k. That didn’t do a whole lot to close the huge gap currently separating him from the series leader.
Cates’ lead is now at $555k, and although Dwan diligently chips away at it, at this rate, it’ll be quite some time till he makes up for the handicap.
One of the most interesting hands of the session was one in which a $124k pot developed. Dwan proved once again in this hand that he was the real deal by busting Cates’ bluff. Dwan had pocket Ks on a board on which there was an A too, and Cates fired out a $39k bluff on the river, with a 4-card flush which failed to fill up. Dwan made the call for the win.
Another monster pot’s fate was decided by a pocket pair vs pocket pair race. Dwan had pocket 9s vs Cates’ pocket Js and the board fell a bunch of rags. Cates ended up going all-in on the turn and Dwan made the call. The two agreed to run both the turn and the river twice and Cates’ walked away with the entire pot eventually.
A few hands later, the two players were all-in again, this time on the turn of a board which didn’t look like much either. Dwan initiated the move, but little did he know that Cates had flopped top two pair. Dwan had two pair too, and a flush draw to go with it. The river was run twice again, and yet again Lady Luck favored Cates who added another monster pot to his tally.
As the frequency of the short challenge sessions between Cates and Dwan picks up, the hopes of the online poker communities intensify in regards to seeing the series reaching a conclusion within a reasonable amount of time.
