Durrrr challenge - Dwan makes little headway

The two durrrr challenge rivals, Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates finally managed to squeeze in another 2,120 hand session, after a hiatus of quite a few months. Although fans of the series were definitely more than excited to see the action flare up again, and although there were plenty of large swings and giant pots that changed hands, in the end the two players had little to show for their efforts. Dwan managed to finish with a profit of about $13,000, not much of a progress towards working off his $650,000 deficit. This newest development left Daniel Gates still very much in charge: he still has a $646,000 advantage over Dwan.
Even though it was Dwan who walked away with the win, things didn't look at all promising for him in the beginning. As a matter of fact, within the first 467 hands, he found himself in a giant $212,000 hole. That considered, the eventual result must have been pretty pleasing for the New Jersey Wonder Kid.
Later in the session, Dwan managed to turn the tables, at one point he got ahead of his opponent by about $91,000. His lead would only shrink from that point onward though, and about 200 hands later, the session concluded with Dwan logging a marginal win.
One of the biggest pots of the session was a $120,000 monster, which ended up in Dwan’s pockets after he basically check called every move that his opponent made. Of course, it didn't hurt that he had flopped a full house before he engaged in this less than optimal way to build the pot.
Another massive pot saw a typical perfect hand situation develop. Dwan had pocket rockets against his opponent’s pocket kings. After the two players got $105,000 into the pot, Dwan's aces held and he picked this monster up as well.
Of course, perfect hands went both ways. Dwan lost a $91,000 pot, having run a two pair into Cates’ set.
