Durrrr Challenge – Dwan shaves a bit off his handicap

Following a 31-day break, Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates squeezed another Durrrr challenge round into the series, albeit this one was indeed a really brief one. The whole thing kicked off with a tweet from Dwan which sent high stakes railbirds into a frenzy. The excitement was to be short-lived though. This leg of the challenge series only lasted for a little over an hour and the protagonists only managed to log 582 hands at the $200/$400 PLO tables.

As you probably know, during the first two durrrr challenge encounters, Cates managed to pretty much clean house, amassing a lead of over $700k. He wasn’t able to continue his dominating ways through this brief get-together though. Dwan played a lot more conservatively and the game was a lot more balanced.
At the end of it all, it was Dwan who walked away with a profit, albeit a minute one. The $1,429 that he managed to lift off the jungleman will certainly not change the tide of the action, but at least he didn’t let his opponent further extend his lead this time.
There was only one six-figure pot in this session and it ended up on jungleman’s side of the table.

Following some preflop give and take, the two players went on to see a flop of 6h,5s,4s. Cates fired out a $4k bet on the flop and Dwan called it to see the 6c drop on the turn. Cates was the one who kicked off the hostilities again by betting $11k into Dwan. Dwan made the call again and the 3h fell on the river. Cates sprung the trap by checking and Dwan moved all-in. With 4 cards to a straight on the board, Cates called and tabled 7,9 for the high end while Dwan showed 2,2 for the bottom end.
