Durrrr challenge: Dwan storms back into lead

Really big things usually have a way of starting out in a modest and insignificant manner. Whether it’s about a birthday party that starts out with two friends heading out for a beer and which a few hours later degenerates into a wild and loud, 50-people motley crew that rocks the pub, or about durrrr inviting Patrik Antonius for a quick 20 minute session which turns into a 15 hour one, at the end of which Dwan goes to bed $726,000 ahead of the Finn, these things have a peculiar way of working out.

That’s right. Forget about Dwan being almost half a million down in the challenge. The New Jersey wonder-kid is now more than 700k up, and all it took him to turn things around this way was a 15 hour session which the duo had logged a couple of days ago, and which took the total number of challenge hands played to 20,647.
This session has been the biggest one from every perspective so far. The two players allowed their stacks to grow to almost $1 million and that gave birth to some out of this world pots. A 408,000 pot was followed up by a 477,000 one, more than $5 million was wagered during the session and a nearly $1 million swing took place. What more could a die-hard durrrr challenge railbird want?

The start of the session saw the two players belly up to the durrrr challenge tables almost level as Dwan had managed to make Antonius’ nearly $500k lead disappear previously. Early in the session, the Finn looked on track to re-establishing that lead, as he worked himself up about $300,000k before things went haywire. By the time the two agreed to take a dinner break, Dwan was back in the driver’s seat and he was already $331,000 up on Antonius.
Challenge table #3 yielded a $377,000 pot for Dwan, as he hit a runner-runner to complete his nut flush.
A few minutes later, a 408,394 pot developed which also ended up in Dwan’s stack. The American’s performance was all the more impressive as he was playing Gus Hansen at another high stakes table and he even managed to squeeze in a short game with Alexander Kostritsyn, whom he relieved of $100k.

The largest pot of the session was a $477,555 one and ironically, it found its way to Antonius’ pocket. Dwan however, was unstoppable. He took down two more $200k pots and managed to extend his challenge lead to over $1.2 million. He soon dropped some money back to Antonius though, and eventually called it the day, telling Antonius he needed to sleep badly.
