Durrrr Challenge is Back!

Yes indeed, it looks like following a hiatus of nearly three years, the none-too-reputable online poker challenge is back on track. It was indeed three years ago that the two pros kicked off their durrrr challenge II, and on Tuesday, they finally sat down at the virtual tables at Full Tilt Poker to finish that they had so long ago started. They put in a massive session, at the end of which, Cates logged a $197.6k profit. The bout took up more than three hours and the scene of the action were the $200/$400 NL Holdem tables. The two played a total of 1,485 hands.
Cates had finished the previous stretch of the challenge with a massive lead and this new session added to his advantage. He is currently about $1.5 million up on Dwan, but with only 20k of the planned 50k hands of the session in the books, there’s still some distance to cover.

The original terms of the durrrr challenge II are still in effect, which means that if he ends up losing the challenge, on top of the money he drops to Cates, Dwan will have to pay him an additional $1.5 million. Also, if he won, he would only get $500k from Cates on top of the money taken down during the challenge. Back in the days when the terms were crafted, Dwan may indeed have felt like he had a major edge at the online tables against just about anyone, but things have changed quite a bit since, so the two players agreed to re-work the deal to make the completion of the challenge possible.

Cates got going early on Tueday, shooting out to a 6-figure lead within the first 200 hands. Dwan later fought back and he actually ended up in the lead for the majority of the match, before Cates got back into the driver’s seat towards the end.
Play at Full Tilt Poker and watch the durrrr challenge II unfold live at the high stakes tables.
