Dwan’s Standing Slipping in the Poker World?

Tom Dwan was one of the poster-children of Full Tilt Poker’s Golden Age (the period leading up to Black Friday), when his name was all over the headlines pretty much every day, on account of the massive pots he played for with Patrik Antonius, Viktor Blom and their ilk. Following Black Friday, his status as a Full Tilt Poker pro was cemented: he joined Blom and Gus Hansen as an official Full Tilt Pro and as a member of “The Professionals”. In the wake of Black Friday though, his status as a perpetual “main eventer” has apparently taken a massive hit. He no longer makes the news, unless it’s for something not directly related to a poker accomplishment. He doesn’t really play online and he’s not much of a live event enthusiast either. Even as Blom and Hansen continue to revel in the spotlight, he has faded into the background with Patrik Antonius.

What’s even worse, lately he seems to have lost some of the respect of his peers too. The reason for the turn of tide was probably his durrrr challenge against Daniel Cates. Most of the bystanders and many of those in some way involved in the challenge see Dwan as the reason why there has been no progress registered for such a frustratingly long time.
Cates did in fact try to get the action going again on several occasions, and there have been rumors regarding the restarting of the durrrr challenge hostilities, but nothing has thus far materialized. Dwan is apparently in no financial or emotional shape to continue.

Another move which earned Dwan a few marks in the “-“ column was a post of his in one of the popular poker forums, in which he detailed how he didn’t see multi-accounting as a serious offense in online poker.
