Dzmitry Urbanovich Wins EPT Dublin Main Event

The Main Event of the 2016 Dublin stop of the European Poker Tour went into the books the other day, with Dzmitry Urbanovich taking down the top prize. Named Player of the Year last season, Urbanovich hadn't actually managed to win a Main Event, until the other day that is, when he defeated Gilles Bernies, a German DJ, heads-up, taking down the €561.9k top prize, without any deals or other distractions. Bernies shouldn't be very disappointed either though: after all, he walked away with €349.8k.
The last day of action saw only 6 players return to the tables to decide the fate of the tournament. Rhys Jones from the UK was under a great deal of pressure with his short-stack from the beginning, and sure enough, he became the first victim of the final table after just a few hands, sent packing by the one who would later become the winner: Urbanovich.

The second elimination of the day came about some 34 hands later, when Ilios Kamatakis was bounced by Bernies. Once he got going with this elimination, Bernies didn't stop: he bounced local player Patrick Clarke next, and on the very next hand, he sent Kully Sidhu packing as well in 3rd place, thus setting up the heads-up stage of the tournament. When the home stretch of the action kicked off, Bernies had a 4-1 chip advantage.
Urbanovich gave him no breathing room though: he doubled up almost immediately and he then took over the chip lead after another lucky turn of cards. After some more back and forth, Urbanovich took over for good. His final hand was a boat, which handily beat his opponent's flush.
