EPL Pro/Am Event – Day 1A Report

The EPL’s Pro/Am Event kicked off last Friday with the first of its two day 1 flights. The $1,500 buy-in event was supposed to come to a halt with 6 players remaining, but eventually, organizers decided to call it the day with 9 players still in contention. Jeremy Ausmus was the one who managed to finish the day with the largest stack: 95k chips.
Ausmus got his large-stack going early: he shoved all-in on the very first hand of the event and he managed to triple up. That early large-stack gave him an edge of which he took advantage over and over. On the second level of play, he locked horns with Gavin Smith, whom he managed to cripple by hitting a set of 8s. Smith was sent to the rail soon after. In his final hand, he had A,10o against Orson Young’s A,9o, but Young caught another 9 on the flop to eliminate Smith.
Kathy Liebert, David Chiu, Andy Frankenberger, Lars Bonding and Dan Fleyshman joined Smith on the rail.

Erik Seidel played as well and he too failed to make it to day 2. Down to his last few thousand chips, Seidel shoved all-in holding pocket 10s. He was called by Brandon Meyers, who had A,8o. The flop fell 8,6,5, giving Meyers a pair. The A on the turn and the 4 on the river decided the hand for good.
Although many of the ‘name’ players bit the dust, there were still plenty of them who successfully cleared the Day 1A hurdle. Rep Porter survived with a stack of 61k chips. Phil Hellmuth, the Poker Brat also made it to Day 2, albeit on a much smaller stack: he only had 27k chips bagged. Matt Marafioti survived too: he finished with 23.4k chips.
Christian Harder finished among the short-stacks: he ended up with 14k chips. Day 1B is set to produce its own field of survivors after which Day 2 will decide the winner.
