EPL Pro/Am Event – Day 1B Report

Day 1B of the EPL Pro/Am Event saw 53 players belly up to the tables. After 12 levels of action, only 11 players remained alive, 2 more than on the previous Day 1 flight. Among the day 1B participants were a whole bunch of ‘name’ players. Eric Buchman, Dutch Boyd, Chau Giang, David Baker and Layne Flack all showed up to play, together with WSOP Main Event Champions Huck Seed, Jamie Gold and Carlos Mortensen.
Greg Mueller finished the day with the chip lead. Other ‘name’ pros who moved on to Day 2 were: Brent Roberts, JJ Liu, Andreas Hoivold, Nam Le, Jeremiah DeGreef, Tim West and Shawn Getzwiller.
Mueller built a stack of 140.5k chips, taking over the overall lead as well. The 11 survivors join 9 more players who emerged from Day 1A. The chip leader of the previous day 1 flight, Jeremy Ausmus, will not even start from second place on Day 1B: his 96.5k chips will only be enough for third place.

Even though it’s supposed to be a Pro/Am Event, the current EPL tournament has pretty much whittled down into a pros only affair. The field of 20 players that will return to action on Day 2 is highlighted by names like Phil Hellmuth, Jeremy Ausmus, Rep Porter, Matt Marafioti and Jamie Kaplan.
The objective for day 2 is for these 20 players to play down to the final 9. The official final table carries special advantages. All those who make the final table will get a $20k entry to the Main Event.
For those who are not EPL card-holders, making the final table is even more essential since for them it is a compulsory requirement.

In order to cover its $180k guarantee, the event was supposed to attract 132 players. Since only 97 showed up at the tables, that guarantee won’t be covered from player buy-ins. The EPL will have to cough up the remainder of the money, which means players will enjoy significant added value.
