EPT Barcelona – Estrellas Main Event Wraps Up

The Super High Roller and the currently ongoing Main Event may have hogged all the lime-light at the
EPT’s Season 10 Barcelona stop, but there were other things going on at the stop too, even if they were somewhat “behind the scenes”. The Estrella Poker Tour’s Main Event was one of these things. The
poker tournament drew a record-breaking starting field of 1,798 players, which meant that the event became the largest ever $1k buy-in event held outside of Las Vegas.
The Estrellas Poker Tour was already underway when the EPT kicked off, but its Main Event only wrapped up the other day. The poker tournament saw quite a few notables belly up to its tables, although by the time the final table was reached, there weren’t any high-profile players in sight.
Britain’s Paul Vas Nunes, who had won his seat online at
PokerStars, was the one who garnered the most attention on the part of the poker press. He eventually made it all the way to the heads-up stage of the event, where he fell to eventual winner Jahn Soenke of Germany. Despite the fact that he came in runner-up only, Nunes was actually the player who took home the largest prize, thanks to a 4-way deal the top 4 finishers had made.
The winner was rewarded with €169.1k, while Nunes’ share of the loot was €204.5k.
There were two other 6-figure winners: Alin Sameeian from Germany, who took home €158.4k, and Marcelo Fonseca from Brazil, who pocketed €121k.
In addition to all the actual green felt action, the EPT’s Season 10 Barcelona stop served up the perfect opportunity for the handing out of the Season 9 Player of the Year awards.
The EPT9 player of the year title was given to Slovakia’ Ian Bendik, while the best country award went to Norway.
