EPT Barcelona Main Event – Andre Lettau Wins

The latest stop of the EPT’s 11th season was a truly record-breaking one from every angle. The starting field numbered some 1,496 players, and with each and every one of those players contributing €5.3k, it’s easy to see how the prize-pool turned out to be a truly epic one as well.
The final table was a worthy coronation of the event too: it took some 15 hours, and the heads-up battle at the end, which decided the winner, was a 6-hour long slug-fest.
While the winner of the
poker tournament was guaranteed a payday exceeding €1million, the eventual winner, Andre Lettau of Germany, ended up taking home a lot less, due to a 3-way deal struck at the top by the top finishers.
Lettau’s share of the prize-pool was a little over €794k, not a bad haul, but a far cry from the €1 million+ that second place man Samuel Phillips from the US pocketed.
Hossein Ensan from Germany was the third party in the above said deal. His share of the loot tipped the scale at €652.6k.

Other players who finished near the top were Andrea Dato of Italy, who ended up in 4th place for a €362k reward, and Russia’s Andrey Shatilov, whose 5th place was worth €286k.
The beginning of the last day saw Ensan sit down behind the largest chip-stack. He was the only one who had more than 10 million chips to his name. Lettau then managed to secure no fewer than 4 pots in a row though to move into the lead. Phillips was active too, as he too took the chip lead once during the early going. The first victim of the final table was Slaven Popov from Bulgaria. He was followed to the rail by Ji Zhang and Kiryl Radzivonau.
