EPT Barcelona Main Event – Day 1A Report

The €5.3k Main Event of the
EPT’s Season 10 Barcelona stop kicked off on Sunday. The first day 1 flight of the
poker tournament saw a massive starting field of 518 belly up to the tables.
Eight levels of action went into the day, at the end of which Dragan Kostic emerged with the chip lead. He had 215k chips bagged, much more than second-place man Niclas Adoltsson, who finished with 147k. Other large stacks were Jacob Rasmussen and Albert Daher. The interesting thing about Kostic’s emergence as the chip leader was the fact that he had finished second to Martin Schleich in the same event back in season 8. Mikalai Pobal is the reigning champion though and he too was back in action, finishing the day very much alive, with 70.3k chips to his name. He will be joined on Day 2 by Vanessa Selbst, who finished with 75.8k chips and Dani Stern.
Needless to say, Team
PokerStars Pro had massive representation in the event: Jason Mercier was there, together with Bertrand Grospellier and Jonathan Duhamel.
David Vamplew, Scott Seiver and Andrew Lichtenberger were present as well.
One of the most dramatic and pitiful stories of the day was that of Alessandro Ielli, an Italian
online poker qualifier who had earned his seat into the Main Event through PokerStars. Ielli only lasted about 30 minutes, unable to convert his PokerStars-provided chance into anything useful.
Alexander Stevic, the winner of the very first EPT Barcelona Main Event, on the other hand, did much better. He finished the day with 103.9k chips, a very healthy stack indeed.
Around 300 players managed to make the cut. Many of the victims hit the rail during the last two levels of action, when short-stacks put their tournament lives onto the line in droves, and the larger stacks swooped in to take advantage of the situation.
Play at PokerStars and earn your EPT Season 10 seat through one of their online qualifiers.
