EPT Barcelona Main Event – Day 3 Report

The third day of the
EPT’s Season 10 Barcelona Main Event saw 235 players return to the tables, hell bent on at least making it past the money-bubble. Indeed, one of the biggest landmarks of the tournament, the money bubble of the Main Event, came and went on Day 3. A total of 5 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 79 players remained standing. The one who finished with the largest stack was Tom Middleton, who had a little over 1 million chips bagged. Other notables who managed to have their tickets punched for Day 4, on healthy stacks no less, were Kevin Vandersmissen, who had 970k chips bagged, Niall Farrell, who finished with 912k, and Thomas Butzhammer (827k).
When the action kicked off, there were only 52 eliminations standing between players and min-cash. Instead of freezing up, the field seemed to delve into the pre-bubble action, and eliminations started flowing almost straight away. As people were falling by the side, it was inevitable that a few of the high profile competitors be among them too. One such player was
PokerStars pro Angel Guillen, who made it close to the money bubble, but was forced to stake his tournament life on a classic coin-flip, holding an A,Ko against Mike Watson’s 7,7. The board was all bricks and Guillen bid farewell to the rest of the field.
Jake Balsiger fell before the bubble as well, together with Dani Stern and Andrew Moreno.
Nuno Da Camara was the bubble-boy of the event, but he was saved the disappointment since he never bothered showing up: his stack was essentially blinded away and it ran out on the bubble.
After the bubble, the eliminations started flowing again. Shannon Shorr and Marvin Rettenmaier busted during this stage, together with Kevin MacPhee and Ole Schemion.
