EPT Berlin Cup – de Korver Wins

The EPT’s Berlin stop got going on Wednesday, with the first event, the Berlin Cup, which featured a €1.1k buy-in and a guarantee of €500k. Eventually, no fewer than 911 players bellied up to the tables of the poker tournament, creating a prize-pool of €883.6k, putting the initial guarantee to shame.
There were two day 1 flights, at the end of which Esben Guenther of Norway emerged with the largest stack.
After the conclusion of the two Day 1 flights, there were still 281 players in contention. Guenther took advantage of his large stack and he went on to make the final table of the event. He eventually faded away in 5th place, picking up a handsome €41k reward for his efforts. Day 2 of the tournament saw the field play down to the final 36. Well-known poker pro Vladimir Geshkenbein was the one with the largest stack at the cessation of the green felt hostilities. With the money bubble set for 112th place, those making the end of the second day were all safely in the money indeed.

Players who busted out past the bubble but who never made the end of day 2 were Paul Testud and Max Lykov.
Vladimir Geshkenbein made the final table, but he was the first victim of the final stretch of the event. He busted in 8th place, followed to the rail by Gokhan Onal from Germany.
Erik Scheidt was eliminated in 6th place, followed by Esben Guenther, as said above. Jonas Garstick’s elimination in 4th place left only 3 in contention. Once this stage was reached, the final 3 struck a deal. Anatoly Filatov of Russia fell 3rd, collecting €126k, and becoming the first player to reach 6-figure territory. Pieter de Korver bested Sebastian Gohr heads-up for the win. The winner’s share of the loot was €145.4k.
