EPT Berlin – Day 2 Report

The second day of the EPT’s Berlin Main Event had 329 players belly up to the tables. After 6 levels of action, only 102 of those players were still standing, when the day was called. The still-provisional chip lead went to Anton Wigg, who managed to skillfully navigate all the hurdles and possibilities thrown his way by day 2 and finished with a stack of 695k chips. Wigg didn’t have a walk in the park kind of day by any means. He pretty much earned each and every one of his chips, having done battle with players like Davidi Kitai and Calvin Anderson.
The hand which Wigg played against Anderson proved the bet the latter’s last. It all started out with a pre-flop raising war that had Anderson shove all his chips into the middle on a pair of Qs. Wigg made the call without hesitation, holding pocket Ks. The board fell a bunch of blanks and Anderson was done.
Wigg’s hand against Kitai came after Stephane Albertini kick-started the action. Kitai, who was in the small blind and Wigg, really ran away with the pot though, forcing all the other players out of the way.

As the Qc,10h,7h peeled off on the flop, Kitai fired out a massive bet which got promptly raised by Wigg. After some tanking, Kitai folded, leaving the massive pot to Wigg, who shot over the 600k mark for the first time thanks to it.

Wigg wasn’t the only one who had a nice day 2 run though. Day 1A chip leader Vladimir Geshkenbein had a great start too. He took down several pots on monster-over-monster perfect hands and he finished the day in second place. Vanessa Selbst played well and she finished on a hefty stack too. Several other ‘name’ pros, among them Viktor Blom, Bary Greenstein, Martin Staszko and Bertrand Grospellier were eliminated though, with nothing to show for their efforts.
David Vamplew was the bubble boy, running his stack ashore in 113th place.
