EPT Berlin Main Event – Day 1B Report

The second Day 1 flight of the
EPT’s Berlin Main Event wrapped up on Monday with 565 players coughing up the buy-in and bellying up to the tables. When the final whistle sounded, there were still 314 players in contention. The one with the largest stack was a familiar face indeed: Michael Mizrachi finished with a stack of 175.4k chips to grab the lead. Despite the fact that there was no one on Day 1B to top him, his stack was only enough for 4th place overall, as three of the Germans who finished at the top of the Day 1A leader board, had bagged more chips than him.
The interesting thing about Michael Mizrachi is that while he is a regular
WSOP buff and a regular participant in some of the major live events world over, thus far, he hasn’t really played in many
EPT events and he has never cashed in one. This time however, he looks well on his way to making a deep run.
Mizrachi got most of his chips after the dinner-break, when he managed to eliminate two opponents in one move, picking up a massive pot in the process. The match-up was a classic battle of the pocket pairs. After an initial betting/raising war, the chips went into the middle with The Grinder holding pocket rockets against the other guys’ pocket Ks and pocket 10s. The aces held and Mizrachi darted into the lead. He later dropped some chips but he still managed to hang on to the top spot.
Sam Grafton was also among those who had their tickets punched for day 2, on a decent-size stack no less. Chris Brammer on the other hand bit the dust, together with Paul Volpe, Phillip Gruissem and Randy Lew.
