EPT Campione – Jannick Wrang Wins

The final table of the EPT’s Campione Main Event was a marathon affair: it took the 8 returning players 8 hours to play down to a winner. Eventually, it was Jannick Wrang who managed to best the rest of the field, defeating Olivier Busquet heads-up and taking home the €640k top prize.
The final table kicked off with almost everyone sitting on a deep stack. It didn’t come as surprise then that the first victim of the day hit the rail around the 90 minute mark. Robin Ylitalo of Sweden was the one who bit the dust after his K,J all-in was called by Balazs Botond’s pocket rockets. He picked up a handsome $54k for his 8th place effort.
Stefano Puccilli was the next victim. He got his last chips into the middle on a Jc,10c only to find a call from Olivier Busquet whose Ah, 2h then proceeded to outrun his pocket hand.
Following the elimination of the last Italian, a dry spell set in. For the following 3 hours, no players headed to the rail. Mario Nagel broke the spell, busting out at the hands of the eventual winner, Wrang himself.
Koen De Visscher tangled with Fabrice Soulier next, his A,9 falling to the latter’s Kd, Qd for the bust.
Balazs Botond attempted a bluff against the wrong person a little later. He ran his bottom pair top kicker into Wrang’s top pair, and 3-handed play was set. The Hungarian picked up €157k for his efforts. Fabrice Soulier was the next victim. He held on for about an hour after Botond’s elimination, but eventually, he too fell to Wrang.

The heads-up action between Wrang and Busquet was an interesting one indeed. Busquet, one of the best heads-up players in the world, started with a slight handicap. A genuine slugfest ensued which lasted till the scheduled break. Once back, Busquet shoved all-in on the first hand and his A,9 fell to Wrang’s A,6 to crown the new champ.
