EPT Deauville – Day 1A Report

The first Day 1 flight of the EPT’s Deauville Main Event saw 234 players belly up to the tables, to battle their way through 8 levels of action with one goal in mind: to have their Day 2 tickets punched. When the action wrapped up, the player with the most chips piled up was Chris Day, who had 154.1k chips bagged. Despite the fact that his stack-size was rather impressive indeed, his lead over second-place man Jorma Nuutinen was only 1 chip big. Nuutinen had exactly 154k bagged.
Day was seated at a table full of maniacs apparently. According to his tweets, there were 6-bet pots played for, and players took down massive pots with just a third pair. With the rabid action came some massive variance, which saw the eventual leader almost reach the 200k chip mark at one point, only to drop back to 154.1k.
Quite surprisingly, “name” competitors were scarce at the tables on Day 1A.
PokerStars pros Eugene Katchalov and Marcin Horecki were there though and they were both successful in having their Day 2 tickets punched. Gabriel Nassif and Ronan Monfort – two members of Team PokerStars Online – on the other hand were both bounced.

EPT winners taking part in the event, managed to make his way to Day 2 too: he finished with 105k chips to his name. Another EPT champion – who will also return on Day 2 – was Zimnan Ziyard. Ziyard only finished with 88.8k chips though.
Another notable who’s earned the right to play on Day 2 was Yannick Wrang. Wrang even managed to clinch the chip lead during the early going, but he then dropped some chips, finishing in the middle of the pack.
Barny Boatman, Dominik Nitsche and Jeff Hakim were among the survivors too.
