EPT Deauville – Day 2 report

501 players bellied up to the tables of the Casino Barriere on Wednesday, to kick off day 2 of the EPT Deauville Main Event. When the action was called at the end of the day, only 205 players were still standing. Having amassed a stack of 439,900 chips, David Sonelin finished as the chip leader. Sonelin is an EPT regular, although he doesn’t really have a whole lot to show for his efforts just yet: his best EPT finish was an 11th place at the Baden stop in 2007.
Only five levels were played on Day 2, but due to the fast and furious nature of the action, around 60 percent of the Day 2 starting field bit the dust.

Sonelin shot into the lead late in the day, overtaking Matthew Frankland in the chip counts. Frankland held the lead for most of the day, and he was the first one to clear the 400k chip mark. Frankland’s progress came mostly at the expense of James Mitchell. Fabrice Soulier was at the same table and he ended up doing extremely well too. He made steady progress through the day and exploded a little bit towards the end to propel himself into second place overall.
Praz Bansi struggled a little bit early on, but found some traction later and ended up finishing with over 300k chips in his stack courtesy of Tim MacDonald, who dropped a hefty pot to him.

Viktor Blom started the day on a more than decent stack, but unlike Bansi, he never managed to get anything going. He kept losing chips and eventually it all came down to the wire for him against Cyril Hanouna. His pocket 6s lost the coin-flip against an A,10 and he was bounced. Nacho Barbero and Pieter de Korver were eliminated too. Local player Antoine Saout joined the casualties as well.

Playing professionally is a lot tehougr and a hell of a lot less glamorous than most people realize. There are a number of factors to consider. The biggest, yet possibly least discussed, factor is the rake. All casinos, online or otherwise, rake cash games and require entry fees in tournaments. Some are reasonable and can be overcome by a truly skilled player, others are very excessive and should definitely be avoided. And, oddly, it can be difficult to determine the difference without considerable sc
