EPT Deauville – Day 2 Report

Registration for the EPT’s Season 10 Deauville Main Event closed when the second day of action kicked off, so the actual numbers concerning the participants and the resulting prize-pool were finally announced. Through two day 1 flights, a total of 671 players put their buy-ins into the middle, quite a bit off the record set by last year’s event. The prize-pool was €3.22 million and a total of 95 players will be paid. The min-cash was set to €9.5k and the eventual winner would walk away with a top prize of €614k.
By the end of the day, 137 players were left standing. The one who finished with the largest stack was Italy’s Bruno Sammartino, who is fresh off a deep run in the French Poker Series’ High Roller – where he placed 3rd. Sammartino, whose previous best EPT finish was a 19th spot in the Grand Final of Season 9, had 427.7k chips bagged. He was followed in the chip counts by Zimnan Ziyard, who had 392.5k chips bagged and Norbert Szecsi, who finished the day with 386.9k. Eugene Katchalov made the top 10 too; he finished 5th with 345.7k chips.

Sammartino’s Day 2 run was punctuated by dodged bullets and lucky bits here and there, making a cocktail which eventually ended up propelling him to the top.
Ayman Zbib, the start of the day chip leader, had a really bad day. Early on, he dropped about half of his stack, and then, within just two levels of action, he was gone for good.
Another player who ended up hitting the sidelines on Day 2 was PokerStars’ Marcin Horecki. He lost a coin-flip first, with A,Q against pocket Ks and then he lost his tournament life as well. Jannick Wrang and Nicolas Chouity, two of the previous EPT champions, were sent packing towards the end of the day too.
