EPT Deauville – Day 3 Report

The third day of the EPT’s Season 10 Deauville stop saw a relatively unknown local player shoot to the top of the chip counts. Ekrem Sanioglu finished with 1.3 million chips to his name, topping the field of survivors. Sanioglu was the true hero of the day indeed. He didn’t shy away from locking up with anyone, and in the end, his temerity was duly rewarded.
Another player who made headlines for his Day 3 performance was PokerStars’ own Eugene Katchalov, who finished with 1.19 million chips. In fact, his stack was large enough to land him in second place. As the only surviving PokerStars pro, Katchalov is now obviously tasked with taking the colors of the site as deep in the event as possible, and victory is definitely always an objective for someone like him.
Norbert Szecsi - who had logged solid runs during the previous couple of days too - finished 3rd with 1.18 million chips.

While Katchalov is no stranger to the EPT felt, victory has thus far eluded him the European Poker Tour. His best EPT performance is a 3rd place finish in the 2011 Barcelona Main Event, an achievement which landed him a €315k prize.

The beginning of the day saw 137 players belly up to the tables, looking to make it past the money bubble. Set for 95th place, the bubble burst when the UK’s Stephen Chidwick – himself one of the “name” competitors playing in the event – was bounced. Tobias Wagner from Germany was the one who sent him packing. Wagner had an A,K against Chidwick’s pocket Ks for the classic coin-flip and he landed an A on the flop to score the knockout.
Alex Goulder, one of PokerStars’ UK players, took a methodical approach to the poker tournament. He chipped up little-by-little, finishing the day with 696k chips.
