EPT Deauville High Roller – Day 2 Report

The second day of the
EPT Deauville’s €10k High Roller saw the field play down to the official final table. Although it would have been theoretically possible to play right down to a winner, the field failed to achieve that rather lofty objective, therefore, there will be a day 3 too.
Martin Jacobson was the player who finished the day with the largest stack. The interesting thing about his rise to the top was the fact that he almost busted out early on day 2. He picked up a pair of Ks and he fired out a three-bet on them, only to be called by Kevin MacPhee, who had pocket rockets. The board fell a bunch of bricks, but because he had only called instead of pushing all-in, MacPhee only picked up a min pot, allowing Jacobson to preserve his
poker tournament life. As if scared into action by the close call, Jacobson began winning pots left and right and by the final whistle, he found himself sitting on 1.29 million chips at the top of the final table leader board.
Lady Luck’s role in Jacobson’s phenomenal run was undeniable though. At one point, he picked up pocket rockets back-to-back, and he even managed to get paid the second time, by Victoria Coren, who had picked up an A,Q.
The money bubble burst on day 2 too. Alexandre Reard was the one who scored a double elimination, sending Adrian Mateos and Tibor Nagygyorgy packing. Mateos was the first player to be awarded a min-cash, on account of his larger pre-bust-out stack, thus the official bubble-boy was Nagygyorgy.
Davidi Kitai, Kevin MacPhee, Andras Nemeth and Jonathan Duhamel all bit the dust in the wake of the money-bubble.
Bryn Kenney made the final table, albeit only as one of the short-stacks.
