The Casino Barriere saw 6 players return to its tables on the final day of the
EPT’s Deauville €10k High Roller. With the money bubble firmly behind them, each and every one of the survivors had his eyes squarely on the prize: the top prize that is. Martin Jacobson started the final table showdown with the largest stack, but he was quite unable to capitalize on his position: in the end, he had to settle for a rather dim 4th place, which earned him a €83.2k prize.
The first victim of the final table was Steven Silverman. He started the day as a short-stack and he was forced to put his
poker tournament life onto the line early. He committed the last of his chips on a K,8o and he got called by Alexandre Reard, who had a dominating As, 7s. The board failed to hit either hand involved and Silverman was eliminated. His 6th place was worth €47.5k, not a whole lot considering the size of the buy-in.
The next player to go was Bryn Kenney, who found the rail about an hour later. Kenney’s last chips went into the middle on a 7d, 8d. Ruzicka was the one who called him with an A,9o. The board failed to deliver yet again and Kenney picked up €64.1k for his efforts.
Ruzicka then made another victim, taking out start of the day chip leader Jacobson in 4th place.
The player whose elimination set up the heads-up stage of the event was Alexandre Reard. Reard’s 9d,8d fell to Timothy Reilly’s 10h, Jh in his final hand. Reard became the first player to finish in 6 figures.
Although the heads-up action kicked off on relatively equal footings, Reilly quickly pulled ahead, before dropping a major pot and with it, eventually letting the tournament slip away. Ruzicka pocketed €313k.
