EPT Deauville – Lucien Cohen wins

891 players registered for the EPT 2011 Deauville stop. Over half of these guys were from France. That kind of overwhelming presence meant little when the going got tough and when things boiled down to the heads-up stage. Eventually, the title did end up in Lucien Cohen’s possession, together with the €880k top prize. Cohen bested Martin Jacobson heads-up for the win.
8 players returned on the 6th day of the Main Event, all of them with a single goal in mind: to clinch the title or to at least get as close to it as possible. Martin Jacobson was the one who started with the best odds on account of his final table-leading stack. His 7 million+ chips offered him a huge edge over most players, with the exception of Alex Wice who had a comparably-sized stack. The action kicked off with the two large stacks bullying the other players. Wice drew first blood, by eliminating Ukraine’s Ruslan Prydryk in 8th spot.
Jacobson got busy as well but his efforts were met with considerably less success. He started bleeding chips and soon he found himself in the middle of the bunch, his chip leading position a distant memory.

Wice in the meantime continued his rampage by bouncing Anthony Hnatow in 7th place. Jacobson finally caught a break against Julien Claudepierre, sending him down the chip count and reclaiming some of his lost leverage. Two more players were eliminated, one by Wice and the other by Jacobson before Claudepierre found the rail as well.
His elimination set up 3-handed play, leaving Cohen as the shortest stack. Cohen caught a few timely all-ins and he eventually bounced Wice to bring the hope back for the home crowd. The heads-up stage started with the Frenchman holding a 2-1 chip advantage which only grew from that point on. Down to 9 million chips, Jacobson shoved all-in on 7h, 6h. Cohen made the call with A,Ko and watched as the board fell a bunch of bricks to give him the win.
