EPT Deauville Main Event – Remi Castaignon Wins

It may have taken the starting field of 782 players close to a week to play down to a winner in the EPT Deauville Main Event, but for one person, France’s Remi Castaignon, every bit of the effort was worth it: he was the one who walked away with the title, the trophy and the €770k top prize when all was said and done.
The final table of the Main Event featured quite a peculiar line-up indeed. The fact that two of the players were from France wasn’t exactly surprising, given that they represented the host nation. No fewer than three of the final table participants being from Lebanon though, was at least a little odd.

The first victim of the final table was Jeffrey Hakim, from Lebanon, who started the day as the short-stack and thus found himself under quite a bit of pressure as soon as the action kicked off. He pushed all-in on an A,Ko and he got called by Enrico Rudelitz who had a dominating pair of aces.
Castaignon had a massive chip lead at the beginning of the action, and having as many of the chips in play in his possession as possible was certainly beneficial, in that it left almost everyone else short-stacked.
The next player to go was Noel Gaens of Belgium, who was followed to the rail by Joseph El Khoury of Lebanon. Thus, before the heads-up stage was even near, two thirds of the previously massive Lebanese contingent was gone.
Franck Calfon busted in 5th place, followed by Germany’s Rudelitz it 4th. Robert Romeo’s elimination in 3rd place set the heads-up stage of the event.
When the heads-up action began, Castaignon enjoyed a massive chip advantage over Walid Bou Habib. The final hand of the poker tournament saw Castaignon’s pocket 3s best Habib’s Kh,8h.
