EPT Deauville Main Event – Sotirios Koutoupas Wins

The final table of the EPT’s Deauville Main Event brought together quite a motley crew of competitors. Sotirios Koutoupas, one of the most experienced of the bunch, had already racked up a second place finish in an
EPT Main Event, and he was on a quest to become the first ever Greek player to take down an EPT title.
Another final table participant, Oliver Price, hadn’t initially intended to take part in the event at all. Rustem Muratov and Carlo De Benedittis on the other hand, definitely intended to take part, but they didn’t pay out the buy-in either. Instead, they both satellited their way into the event for a handful of Euros.
To add a little more spice to the lineup,
PokerStars pro Eugene Katchalov was also at the final table. He came close to winning an EPT title in Barcelona, in 2011, when he finished third.
The first victim of the final table was Anthony Lerust, whose 8th place earned him a €63.9k reward. Carlo De Benedittis, one of the online qualifiers, was the next one to hit the rail. He earned €93k.
Muratov, the other online qualifier was bounced next. His cut of the prize-pool was €128.2k.
Harry Law was the next player sent packing. He was bounced by the eventual winner after he suffered a nasty bad beat. Law’s reward was €164.6k. Eli Heath was the next victim. He took home €207.8k.
Oliver Price’s elimination in 3rd place left Eugene Katchalov to go heads-up with Koutoupas for the title.
Katchalov, who was on the hunt for his Triple Crown, gave it his absolute best, but in the end, it would prove insufficient against his very determined Greek foe.
The final hand of the tournament saw Koutoupas’ A,3 catch trips on the flop against Katchalov’s A,Ko. The turn and the river changed nothing, and Koutoupas walked away with the €614k top prize.
