The
EPT’s Dortmund stop’s Day 1A attracted 306 players promising an even more numerous Day 1B field and a pretty hefty total prize-pool as a result.
No fewer than 115 of the 306 starters survived the day of poker hostilities and will show up at the green felt on Day 2.
The chip lead for Day 1A went to Sweden’s William Thorson, who pulled the same stunt he had at the Copenhagen stop and amassed a 84,500-chip stack to secure the top position of the provisional leader board.
Day 1A lasted for 8 levels and each and every one of those levels saw some kicking and clawing. Home boy Robert Zipf finished runner up to Thorson, on a stack of 72,300.
Jan Collado Fernandez finished the day in 3rd, with 71,100 chips, followed by Martin Bjerring in 4th with 70,500 and Jens Wiegel in 5th with 69,300. Michael Kwiek wrapped up the top 10 with 62,700 chips.
As the game kicked off, Johannes Strassmann was one of the players experts kept an eye on. After all, he had made it all the way to the final table during the previous season’s Dortmund stop, and as such was one of the notable presences of this event as well.
Strassmann didn’t find the going easy it all, but after a roller coaster ride of a day he managed to secure his seat for Day 2.
Other notable players who survived the Day 1A attrition were: Rolf Slotboom, Alexander Kravchenko and Soren Kongsgaard.
Barny Boatman and Ivan Demidov weren’t as lucky as the apparent streak of not-so-good luck following the members of the Hendon Mob lately kicked in once again. Other players who headed to the rail on Day 1A were: Rasmus Nielsen, Roberto Romanelo and Remy Biechel.
Day 1B’s starting field includes players like Marcel Luske, Betrand Grospellier (fresh off his National Heads-up Poker Championship run), Dario Minieri (who also played in the Heads-up Championship) and Peter Eastgate (the reigning WSOP Main Event champion).
Last year, there were 411 starters in the EPT’s Dortmund Main Event, a field which will probably be well exceeded this year.
