EPT Dortmund Final Table report

Posted by: James Carter. - Sun, 2009-03-15 21:52

Day 3 of the EPT’s Dortmund Main Event saw a field of 34 players belly up to the tables. The German dominated field was quick to eject the lone American left in contention. Brandon Hall was eliminated in 30th place.
Germany’s Marco Noll, the overall chip leader after the first two Day 1 flights, was even quicker to head to the rail. He was eliminated in 32nd place by Turkey’s Cengizcan Ulusu on a Q,Q vs A,K match-up, which remained unaltered by the board.

The two past WSOP Dortmund Main Event champions, Andreas Hoivold and Mike McDonald were going strong for a while, especially McDonald who bounced Amir Sarughieh first and then sent Johann Percival to the rail.
Andreas Hoivold was eliminated in 13th place, after a tussle with Johann Storaker, in which his A,K was defeated by the latter’s pocket 9s. With Mike McDonald coming strongly from behind and challenging for the lead, Hoivold’s chips proved to be of great value for Storaker.

Florian Langmann busted out in 9th, and by then Johann Storaker had pretty much secured the lead for the day, behind a 1,615,000 stack. Italy’s Luca Pagano took second place with 1,115,000 followed by Sweden William Thorson in 3rd with 829,000.
Mike McDonald, last season’s EPT Dortmund champ, had a very strong Day 3 showing and as a result of that he finished the day in 4th place with 746,000, keeping hopes alive for a successful title-defense.
Holger Kanish, the previous day’s chip leader is also still in contention, having finished Day 3 in 5th on a 661,000 stack.
Germany’s Sandra Naujoks finished 6th, with 586,000 chips. If she succeeds in winning the event, she’ll become the second only female EPT event winner after Britain’s Victoria Coren who triumphed in the 2006 London event.
Germany’s Mark Gork finished in 7th with 540,000 chips. Turkey’s Cengizcan Ulusu, the player responsible for Marco Noll’s early Day 3 exit, rounds up the final table in 8th spot, just a few thousand chips behind Gork, with 537,000.
With a field this diverse, the final table action is likely to provide some very interesting action tomorrow.
