EPT Grand Final – Day 4 Report

The 4th day of the EPT’s Grand Final was a truly wild affair. No fewer than 5 chip leaders handed the reins of the action to one another during the day. Three tablefuls of players returned to action on day 4, the remains of a once-mighty and pro-laden starting field of 686, most of which fell by the side during 3 days of action.
Eugene Yanayt was the one who held the chip lead at the beginning of Day 4, by quite an impressive margin too. After the whirlwind of a day, it was Ivan Freitez who had the largest stack of chips.

Ole Kristian Nergard was the player who finished the second day 1 flight of the tournament with the largest stack. He was the very first player to bite the dust when day 4 commenced. Victor Ramdin followed him to the rail. Raemon Sluiter did well, up to the point when he pushed everything into the middle on a pair of Ks. He was called by Tamas Lendvai who had A,K. The Hungarian then proceeded to crack his opponent’s pocket pair, sending him to the rail.
Lendvai didn’t stop there. He used his momentum to bust Hugo Lemaire, who had been a large-stack at one point in the tournament as well.
Torsten Brinkmann and Eugene Yanayt waged a back and forth war after the field had whittled down to 18. Yanayt eventually took the lead, but Brinkmann managed to hang in there among the large stacks too.
Ivan Freitez hit a huge hand in the final stretch, tripling up at the expense of Pedro Pellicer and Juan Maceiras.

Several players exited in dramatic fashion going from hero to zero in the matter of a couple of hands as the final table drew closer. Eventually, it was Thomass Petterson’s elimination that set the official, 8-handed final table.
Andrew Li is the official short-stack heading into the final table.
