EPT London High Roller – Day 1 Report

The first day of the £10,300 High Roller of the
EPT’s Season 10 London stop was a major success registrations-wise: 148 players coughed up the buy-in and bellied up to the tables of the Grand Connaught Rooms, the venue hosting the
poker tournament. Compared to last season’s 112 players, that was a major uptick indeed, and registration will remain open till the beginning of the second day, so more buy-ins may yet end up in the middle.
Although they were allowed to re-buy, obviously, many of the players bounced on Day 1 opted not to do so. A total of 74 remained standing when the day was called. The player to have the largest stack bagged was Carla Sabini: she finished with 269.7k chips.
Antonio Lafosse finished with a large stack as well, his 257.8k enough to land him in second place for the day. Most of Lafosse’s chips came from Fabian Quoss, who dropped a massive pot to the Peruvian.
Shawn Buchanan finished with a healthy stack too: he had 211.5k chips bagged. Frederik Jensen and Talal Shakerchi were among the leaders as well, as was
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier, who finished with 164.4k chips to his name.
Most of Mercier’s chips were earned during the last level of action, from none other than Steve O’Dwyer. The two got involved in a major pot, which saw O’Dwyer go all-in holding an A,Qo. Mercier thought about it for a while, but he then made the call, with pocket 6s for the classic coin-flip and he ended up taking down the pot.
PokerStars’ Luca Pagano made the cut too, together with Eugene Katchalov and Bertrand Grospellier. The PokerStars contingent will also be able to count on Vicky Coren and Jonathan Duhamel on Day 2.
Ashton Griffin and Mike McDonald were both bounced, together with Max Altergott and Paul Newey.
