EPT London Main Event – Day 1B Report

The first day 1 flight of the EPT’s London Main Event saw a predictably shabby starting field of 209 players belly up to the tables, but – again, quite predictably – Day 1B more than made up for it. No fewer than 389 players showed up for the second day 1 flight, and there were an impressive number of “name” competitors among them. A total of 8 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 230 players remained standing. The one to finish with the largest stack was Maximilian Senft, who had 223k bagged.
Senft’s Day 1B was perfect from every angle: he got off to a flying start, getting involved in a massive pot with Ian Dion. Senft was the one who kick-started the preflop betting and Dion joined in. All the other players got out of the way before the Kc,Ks,8s hit the board. The two players checked and the Qs fell on the turn, prompting a bet from Senft. Dion called, to see the 8d hit the river. Senft moved all-in and Dion made the call, not before giving it some thorough thought. It turned out though that he’d made the wrong move as Senft turned over a boat, against which his pocket rockets stood no chance. Having been crippled this way, Dion bowed out of contention a few hands later.

Max Silver was also eliminated, together with a host of other pros. The winner of the Super High Roller, Martin Finger, was also among the victims. Chris Moorman, David Benefield, and Ivan Demidov were also eliminated, together with PokerStars’ own Bertrand Grospellier, Nacho Barbero, Jason Mercier and Vanessa Selbst. The attrition exacted a toll on Full Tilt Poker’s pros as well: Andras Nemeth and Jonathan Karamalikis were sent to the sidelines too.
