EPT London Super High Roller – Day 1 Report

On Friday, the London stop of the
EPT 10, the second one of the current season, kicked off with the first day of the £50k Super High Roller. Needless to say, the prestige of the event as well as the buy-in and the potential prizes involved made sure that scores of pros bellied up to the table for this one. At the end of the Day 1 hostilities, the player to finish with the largest stack was Germany’s Johannes Strassmann, one of the well known pros and an EPT regular. Strassmann finished with 1.53 million chips to his name.
The first day of action drew a total of 52 buy-ins, of which 14 were re-buys so there were 38 players involved. 32 of them remained standing at the end of the day, which means there were basically only 6 eliminations, and even those players may yet decide to re-enter, since registration remains open till the beginning of Day 2.
When the action officially kicked off, only 8 players were actually there, one of them
PokerStars’ own Bertrand Grospellier. The Frenchman got bounced early and he decided not to re-enter on Day 1.
As the tables were beginning to fill up, it became apparent that there was a large contingent of German players present. Max Altergott was there, together with Fabian Quoss and Tobias Reinkemeier. Philipp Gruissem played as well, although in hindsight we’re pretty sure he wished he hadn’t showed up: he was bounced no fewer than 3 times during the day, but he can still choose to give it one more go.
Martin Finger and Ole Schemion made it past the Day 1 hurdle together with the other Germans mentioned above.
Jason Mecier, Sorel Mizzi and Jonathan Duhamel all fired two bullets on Day 1 and they all managed to have their Day 2 tickets punched.
