EPT London Super High Roller – Martin Finger Wins

The third day of the EPT’s London £50k Super High Roller turned out to be the last of it too: the field played down to a winner and that winner was start of the day chip leader Martin Finger from Germany, who parlayed his chip advantage into a £821k prize. Indeed, at the beginning of the tournament we noted that there were an unusually high number of Germans in the starting field, and that translated into an all-German top 3. Finger bested Tobias Reinkemeier heads-up for the top spot, while Christoph Vogelsang finished 3rd. What’s more, the 5th place prize ended up in possession of a German as well: Johannes Strassmann collected £224.4k for his efforts. The only non-German player who managed to sneak into the top 5 was the US’s Bill Perkins.

As soon as the action kicked off, it became obvious those at the table came to play: it only took 4 hands for the first victim of the day to head to the rail and that victim was Patrik Antonius. Antonius shoved all-in holding an As,5s, and Timothy Adams made the call with an Ad, 5c. The flop fell all diamonds and suddenly Adams’ situation improved. The 8d on the river gave him the flush and Antonius was done. David Benefield followed him to the rail in 7th place, picking up £139.6k for his efforts.
Timothy Adams failed to use Antonius’ chips to make his way deeper than 6th place. His reward was £175.2k.
Strassman and Perkins’ elimination came in the same hand as Finger got both of them caught in a giant pot. Perkins had an A,Jo and Strassman a J,9o. Finger’s pocket Qs were way ahead and they improved into a set on the flop. Both Perkins and Strassman were bounced.
Vogelsang collected £383.2k for his 3rd place.
