EPT Madrid – Day 2 Report

Day 2 of the EPT’s Madrid Main Event saw 264 players belly up to the tables and 5 levels of 75 minutes each logged before the final whistle. The 5-level day meant an early finish for the 112 players who moved on to day 3, but the majority were OK with the organizers’ decision as it allowed them to head on over to the stadium to watch the Real Madrid -CSKA Moscow Champions’ League game.
Juan Navarrete started the day with the largest stack. At the beginning, there were players in the upstairs room of the casino as well as downstairs, but by the end of the day, everyone was squeezed into one room.
Mike McDonald was the one who finished the second day of the poker tournament in the lead: he accumulated 409.8k chips. There was only one more player who managed to break through the 400k chip mark: Frederik Jensen, who managed to amass 404.5k chips.

McDonald’s big break came on a lucky play. He got all his chips into the middle on a 5-bet, holding an A,J against an opponent’s pocket Ks. That hand promptly thrust him into the lead, but he took down several less significant pots through the day. In his last hand of the day, he picked up pocket rockets and called a short-stack’s 4,5 all-in. He proceeded to pick up quads on the turn, adding some more chips to his already bulging stack. McLean Karr also made it through the day on a healthy stack.
Team PokerStars Pros were met with mixed fortune. Some of them, like Johnny Lodden and Angel Guillen made it past the hurdle on decent stacks. Others, like Alex Kravchenko made it, but on shorter stacks. Still others fell by the side. Juan Manuel Pastor, one of the locals, busted early in the day, together with Nacho Barbero, Jake Cody, Chris Moorman and Dominic Nitsche.
