EPT Madrid – Day 4 Report

24 players reconvened for the 4th day of the EPT’s Madrid final table, the goal of which was an obvious and cruelly straightforward one: to play down to the 8-handed final table. Although numerous ‘name’ pros fell by the side on each and every one of the 3 days leading up to day 4, there were still plenty of them among the survivors and quite a few of them made it through the day yet again, making the final table. Indeed, these days, just to make the final table of an EPT Main Event is quite an achievement for pros and regular/recreational players alike.
Friday’s action was solid and fast-paced from one end to the other. Spain’s Ricardo Ibanez claimed the chip lead at the day’s end, after he’d thoroughly dominated his table. Three times the Spaniard landed sets on the flop and all three times he cashed in on them. He five-bet bluffed Bruno Lopes off a hand to claim yet another large pot and to prove that he didn’t need good hands to play well.
He finished the day with a stack of 3,216,000 chips, well ahead of second place man Fraser McIntyre, who only had 2.47 million chips.

McDonald shared a table with Ibanez and he had a pretty up and down day as he did battle with most of the players there. He managed to double up against Ibanez once, he the eliminated Taylor Paur, only to eventually succumb to a lucky opponent who managed to flop a Broadway against his set and then to hit a flush on the turn to add insult to injury.
PokerStars Team Online’s Javier Dominguez started the day with the shortest stack. Although he did manage to hang on for a while, eventually he too was bounced.
Start of the day chip leader Joao Paulo Simao dropped lots of chips on bad bluffs. He was eventually eliminated by Jason Duval.
