EPT Malta Main Event - Day 5 Report

16 players returned to action on the 5th day of the
European Poker Tour's Malta Main Event, looking to play down to the final table. That objective was indeed accomplished, as Alen Bilic clinched the chip lead. 6 players remained in contention.
The start of the day was a stormy one: on the very first hand, a player was sent packing. Kitty Kuo, the last woman in the field, was sent to the rail by Bjorn Geissert. The trickle of eliminations soon turned into a proper flow, as players like Apostolos Bechrakis, Darrell Goh, Gianluca Escobar and Antonio Chemi bit the dust one after the other. Alexander Ivarsson was the one who had started the penultimate day with the largest stack, but alas, his tournament life had to end on Day 5 as well. He fell at Bilic's hands, after the latter's Ah, Kh proceeded to make a pair of Ks against his pocket Qs.

The final table bubble-boy was Daniel Dvoress, who fell in 7th place, courtesy of Niall Farrell. Farrell had an excellent run on day 5: he ended up with 5.1 million chips, enough for second place. Poland's Jaroslaw Sikora, one of the earlier chip leaders, finished with 2.4 million chips, in third place. Sam Greenwood finished the day in 4th place, with 1.6 million chips, while Germany's Reiner Kempe finished 5th, with 1.5 million chips.
The official short-stack - come the final day of action - will be Italy's Giulio Spampinato, who had 1.18 million chips bagged.
The final table kicks off at 1 PM Malta time.
