EPT Monaco Preview

When it comes to the richest and most prestigious poker tour on the planet, the European Poker Tour, the expectations of the public and that of the players are high in regards to what the finale of Season 9, the PokerStars and Monte Carlo Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final, should deliver.
The finale of the 9th season does indeed seem set to fulfill all those expectations and then some: the Main Event – which kicked off today with its first Day 1 flight – features a €10.6k buy-in, which alone would qualify it as a high roller just about everywhere else. There are two major High Rollers: €100k one, which is obviously destined for the elite, and a €25k one, which is more accessible to the general public. What really sets the EPT’s Monte Carlo Grand Final apart from the rest of the EPT events though is that for the first time it will offer a cash game schedule in addition to the usual tournaments.

The Main Event is considered by experts the biggest and most prestigious yearly poker tournament held in Europe. The prize-pools it generates are usually massive, and organizers expect it to yield a first-place price in the vicinity of €800k (although that is probably a really pessimistic projection, given the fact that last year’s winner – Mohsin Charania from the US – took home more than €1.35 million).
The scene of all the poker action will be the Salle de Etolies, which is situated behind the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, and which features a retractable roof that will stay closed to insure privacy for those duking it out at the green felt inside.
As EPT president Edgar Stuchly put it: the venue is indeed the perfect one for the wrap-up of the 9th season of the Tour.
At the beginning of Day 1A, only 60 players tricked into the Salle de Etoiles, but that number will obviously go up as the opening levels are left behind.
