The EPT Monte Carlo’s €25k High Roller event wrapped up on Tuesday yielding a winner in Igor Kurganov. Kurganov bested the high-quality starting field to take home the top prize of €1.08 million and the coveted title. Kurganov’s win was impressive from just about every point of view. The field through which he made his way to the final table was quite possibly among the best fields any live
poker tournament can yield these days. Kurganov never got rid of notorious opponents: the heads-up stage of the event saw him defeat Daniel Negreanu heads-up.
The difference between first and second place was quite substantial indeed, especially as far as the prize-money was concerned. While the winner picked up more than €1 million, second place man Daniel Negreanu ‘only’ pocketed €598.6k.
Justin Bonomo was the one who had the largest stack at the beginning of the final table action. The official shorts-stack was also a Team PokerStars Pro: Max Lykov. Lykov was indeed the first one to bite the dust on the last day of action. He picked up €100k for his efforts.
Nathan Schoo followed Lykov to the rail in 7th place. He took down €133k. Noah Schwartz was the one who helped Schoo to the rail, but he couldn’t hold on much longer himself after Schoo’s elimination. He took home €166k for his 6th place.
Artem Litvinov picked up pocket Js next and he got his chips into the middle, only to run into Justin Bonomo’s pocket Qs. Litvinov’s 5th place was worth €216k. Bonomo followed his victim to the sidelines in 4th. He was rewarded with €266k for his efforts.
Philipp Gruissem’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage. At the beginning of the heads-up stage of the action, Negreanu held a decent chip advantage. The heads-up battle was a back and forth quagmire for a while, after which Kurganov started gaining the upper hand. The last hand of the event saw Kurganov’s K,3o best Negreanu’s Ac, Jc.
