EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final - Day 2 In the Books

The second day of the
EPT's Monte Carlo Main Event went into the books, leaving some 114 players in contention. Day 2 saw both surviving fields from the two Day 1 flights get together for the first time, which meant that some 310 players bellied up to the tables of the Monte Carlo Casino at the beginning of the day. A total of 9 "extra" players joined the field on Day 2, among them Daniel Negreanu, Igor Kurganov and Max Altergott. Phil Ivey was supposed to show up too according to some, but eventually, he didn't play.
Although the organizers were very optimistic concerning the size of the starting field, at 564, this year's yield was quite underwhelming, considering that last year, no fewer than 650 players bought in. The prize-pool this time is €5.64 million. A total of 79 players will be paid, and -barring some sort of a deal at the top - the winner will take home a little over €1 million.

The player who managed to build the largest stack of chips by the end of the day was Germany's Ole Schemion. He will start Day 3 behind 477.7 million chips. While the chip lead is indeed his, Christopher Frank is breathing down his neck with 465.2k. Jason Mercier made the top 10 of the provisional chip count too: he finished with 296.4k chips, enough for 5th place. Another notable to keep an eye on come Day 3 is Vanessa Selbst, who finished 9th, with 285k chips.
Daniel Negreanu failed to make it through Day2. He hit the rail together with Jake Cody and Liv Boeree.
