EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final – Day 4 Report

Day 4 of the EPT’s Monte Carlo Main Event saw a major milestone reached: the final table. 8 players survived the day’s attrition to return for the final day of the event with hopes of taking home the top prize.
Day 4 lasted for 5 hours only. That was all it took for the field to whittle down to the final 8 and for Bernard Guigon to build a stack of 4.9 million chips, more than enough to clinch the lead. As soon as the action kicked off, players started hitting the rail one after the other. Andrew Pantling started the day on a short stack, so he was under quite a bit of pressure to get something going early on. He eventually committed only to find a caller with pocket rockets who bounced him in earnest.
At the beginning of the day, all eyes were on Vadzim Kursevich, the last EPT champion in the field. Kursevich’s run for a second title wasn’t meant to be though. He was the second one to bite the dust on day 4, when his A,8 fell to an opponent’s heart flush.

Amit Makhija’s elimination was a classic one. He picked up pocket Qs and shoved all-in, only to find a caller who had pocket Ks. Jason Wheeler made the casualty-list too. He had a top pair in a hand in which an opponent of his had a top set.
Pratyush Buddiga had a great tournament until he managed to run his A,8 into the pocket Ks of the eventual chip leader. Start of the day chip leader Geert-Jan Potijk busted out too.
The final table bubble was an interesting affair. The two players whose eliminations burst it were sent to the rail quite literally within seconds of one another. Vadzim Markushevski was the one to bow out in 10th after a bad beat. The official final table bubble-boy was Alex Mostafavi.
