EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event – Day 5 Report

The penultimate day of the EPT’s Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event saw 16 players return to the tables with the stated goal of playing down to the final table. By the end of the day, the final table had indeed been set and it turned out to be a virtual who’s who of high profile poker competitors. The player who finished the day with the largest stack was Steve O’Dwyer. He finished just ahead of Andrew Pantling. O’Dwyer accumulated a stack of 4.45 million chips, while Pantling had 4.18 million bagged. Other “name” players who made the home dash of the poker tournament were PokerStars pros Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Jake Cody, Grant Levy, Johnny Lodden and Noah Schwartz. It is indeed safe to say that this final table will be a 100% high-profile pro one. The official short-stack of the final table will be Australia’s Grant Levy, who will begin the final stretch with only 786k chips to his name.

The day kicked off on the right foot eliminations-wise. The first one to bite the dust was Mateusz Moolhuizen, who pushed his last chips into the middle with pocket Ks. Grant Levy made the call with A,J for the coin-flip and he proceeded to hit a pair of As to take down the pot, drawing first blood on day 5. Moolhuizen was followed to the rail by Goran Mandic, who got his pocket Js dismantled by Steve O’Dwyer’s pocket 3s. Andrew Lichtenberger didn’t have a much better day either. Victor Ramdin hit a dry-spell as well, and after failing to get anything going despite being seated at the feature table, he too bit the dust in 13th place.
The official final table bubble-boy was Freddy Deeb who hit the rail in 9th place, courtesy of Pantling.
