EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event – O’Dwyer Wins

On Sunday, what was quite probably the toughest final table in the history of EPT Main Events – made up exclusively of high-profile “name” players – got together to play down to a winner in the EPT’s Monte Carlo Grand Final Main Event. Steve O’Dwyer was the chip leader when the action got going and in the end, he was the only one left at the table, all the chips piled up in front on him and his bankroll bigger by about €1.22 million.
Besides O’Dwyer, Grant Levy, PokerStars pros Daniel Negreanu, Jake Cody, Johnny Lodden, Noah Schwartz, and Jason Mercier played too, together with Andrew Pantling. Levy was the official short-stack going into the final table and sure enough, he was the first one to get the boot.
Levy pushed all-in against Andrew Pantling, with nothing but an A-high. Not to be outdone, Pantling made the call and he proceeded to make a flush to score the first knockout of the final table.

Levy’s elimination left Jason Mercier with the shortest stack, and despite an initial double-up, he became the next player to hit the rail. Mercier earned a handsome €137k. He was followed to the rail by the only other American at the final table: Noah Schwartz. Schwartz was bounced by Negreanu. Jake Cody followed him to the rail, and he was in turn followed to the sidelines by Daniel Negreanu.
Johnny Lodden’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the poker tournament, but by then, the prizes were soaring high indeed. Lodden picked up €467k for his efforts, while Negreanu was rewarded with €321k. O’Dwyer tried to strike a heads-up deal with Pantling, but the latter declined. The last hand of the event saw O’Dwyer make quads for the win.
